Due to significant erosion, the toilet at the Russell Island camping area has been removed. Please bring a portable camping toilet or chemical toilet when camping.
Erosion has significantly affected the northern beach of the low-lying sandy portion of Russell Island, requiring removal of the toilet and a reduction in the capacity of the camping area.
Russell Island is a Commonwealth Island managed jointly by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. Further assessments will occur to determine if there is another suitable location on Russell Island for a camping area or other appropriate recreational opportunities.
