This alert applies to the following park:

Due to recent wet weather and flooding, the below areas within Chillagoe-Mungana Caves National Park are temporarily closed until deemed safe to reopen. Anticipated reopening dates will be updated as conditions are assessed.

Caves:

  • Donna Cave (ranger guided tour) - anticipated to reopen Monday 1 June 2026
  • Royal Arch Cave (ranger guided tour) - anticipated to reopen Tuesday 31 March 2026
  • The Archways - anticipated to reopen Tuesday 31 March 2026
  • Bauhinia Cave  - anticipated to reopen Tuesday 31 March 2026

Walking tracks:

  • Donna Cave to Balancing Rock car park walking track - anticipated to reopen Tuesday 31 March 2026
  • Royal Arch walking track from Balancing Rock carpark to Royal Arch Cave - anticipated to reopen Tuesday 31 March 2026

Aboriginal art sites:

  • Mungana art site - anticipated to reopen Tuesday 31 March 2026

 

The following will remain open during this period:

  • Trezkinn Cave (ranger guided tour)
  • Pompeii Cave
  • Chillagoe Smelters
  • Balancing Rock track
  • Wullumba art site

 

Please observe all signage, barriers and directions from Rangers and do not enter closed areas.
