George Point camping area on the southern coastline of Hinchinbrook Island National Park has been affected by severe erosion due to ongoing high tides over the past several years.

The camping area signage and infrastructure, including the toilet, have been removed. There is currently no signage to identify the pickup point for hikers.

There is bush camping available nearby if needed by Thorsborne Trail hikers or sea kayakers. Space for camping is available under a large stand of trees approximately 2.6km south of the Mulligan Creek crossing along the beach (prior to reaching the old camping area when hiking from north to south). Look out for a sign identifying the new camping area. Please be aware there is no toilet/pack rack. There is no boat-based camping available.

The George Point pickup point is 250m southwest of the bush camping space, along the beach.

QPWS is currently reviewing options for the future of the site as part of the Thorsborne Trail Enhancement project.
