This alert applies to the following parks:

As a result of damage from Tropical Cyclone Alfred, some areas in Lamington National Park are closed until declared safe.

QPWS Rangers are managing the situation and have damage assessment and repair activities in progress.

CLOSED Areas:

Binna Burra section

  • Illinbah circuit (eastern side) - Closed from the first junction on the Gwongoorool track to the Illinbah bush camp. The western side of the Illinbah circuit remains open (access is from the second junction on the Gwongoorool track).  Once visitors reach the Illinbah bush camp, please return via the same track.
  • Coomera circuit - Partial closure from the Coomera Falls lookout to the southern junction on the Border track (second turn-off) - The only access to the Coomera Falls lookout is from the northern junction on the Border track (first turn-off) - once visitors reach the Coomera Falls lookout, please return via the same track.

Green Mountains section

  • Albert River circuit - Partial closure from the northern junction on the Border track (first turn-off) to Echo Point - The only access to Echo Point is from the southern junction on the Border track (second turn-off).  Once visitors reach Echo Point, please return via the same track.

OPEN Areas:

  • Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk track.
  • Border track (between Binna Burra and Green Mountains/O'Reilly's)

Binna Burra section

  • Upper Day-use Area and trailhead visitor facilities, including toilets
  • Rainforest circuit
  • Tullawallal circuit
  • Caves track
  • Gwongoorool track
  • Daves Creek circuit
  • Lower Bellbird track
  • Wagawn track
  • Araucaria track
  • Mount Hobwee circuit
  • Ship Stern circuit
  • Coomera circuit - Partially open from the northern junction on the Border track (first turn-off) to the Coomera Falls lookout only - once visitors reach the Coomera Falls lookout, please return via the same track.
  • Upper Ballanjui Falls (please return via the same track)
  • Illinbah circuit (western side) - Open from the second junction on the Gwongoorool track to the Illinbah bush camp - Once visitors reach the Illinbah bush camp - please return via the same track. The eastern side will remain temporarily closed until declared safe.

Green Mountains section 

  • Day-use Area and trailhead visitor facilities, including toilets
  • Rainforest return track
  • Centenary track
  • Morans Falls track 
  • Python Rock track 
  • Box Forest circuit
  • West Canungra Creek circuit
  • Toolona Creek circuit
  • Albert River circuit - Partially open from the southern junction (second turn-off) to Echo Point only - once you reach Echo Point, please return via the same track)

Remote bush camp sites (including on and off track)

  • Mount Bithongabel bush camp (on-track)
  • Echo Point bush camp (on-track)
  • Rat-a-tat remote bush camp (off-track)
  • Stinson remote bush camp (off-track)
  • Point Lookout remote bush camp (off-track)
  • Running Creek remote bush camp (off-track)
  • Lost World - Saddle remote bush camp (off-track)
  • Lost world - Creek remote bush camp (off-track)
  • Illinbah bush camp (on-track)
  • Darlington remote bush camp (off-track)

All camping permits for closed areas are suspended for the duration of the closure.

Commercial tour operators and other permit or agreement holders are not permitted to enter closed areas.

Please observe all signage, barriers and directions from rangers and do not enter closed areas.

For your safety please use caution whilst visiting the park.

Facilities will reopen when conditions are considered safe.
