This alert applies to the following parks:

A fire prohibition will be active in protected areas within Moreton Bay from 12.01am Thursday 2 October through to 11.59pm Tuesday 7 October 2025 due to the current weather forecast and increased risk of bushfires.

Open fires must not be lit anywhere in: 

  • Bribie Island Recreation Area
  • Gheebulum Kunungai National Park
  • Moreton Island Recreation Area
  • Naree Budjong Djara National Park
  • Minjerribah Recreation Area
  • Teerk Roo Ra National Park
  • South Stradbroke Island Conservation Park
  • Southern Moreton Bay Islands NP

During the fire prohibition, only fully enclosed cooking and heating appliances are permitted in camping areas that meet the below requirements.

  • The appliance must use gas or manufactured fuel (heat beads, briquettes). Manufactured fuel does not include timber or wood.
  • It must be used only for cooking and/or heating.
  • It must be a minimum of 20cm off the ground and more than 2m from flammable materials, which includes vegetation. 
  • It must not have the potential to generate airborne embers, or possibly ignite nearby ground fuels.
  • It must be fully self-contained (heat source enclosed and no exposed flame) and never left unattended when in use.
  • Appliances that are not fully self-contained, such as braziers, are not permitted.
  • All appliances, materials and burnt fuel must be removed from the recreation area on your departure.

Visitors must comply with this fire prohibition and any directions given by rangers. On the spot fines may be issued for non-compliance.
