Deep hole formations which may restrict access to and from Double Island Point

Regular sand movement within the saltwater lagoon at Double Island Point often results in the formation of deep holes. These natural changes can prevent vehicles from accessing the Double Island Point (Wide Bay side), the sandspit or travelling through to Rainbow Beach at any tide. This is a natural process within the Great Sandy National Park, where all environments are protected and natural coastal processes are allowed to occur.

Queensland Parks and Wildife Service maintains safe access to the beaches via the Freshwater Track and the Leisha Track.

Always drive the beaches within the Great Sandy National Park to the prevailing conditions. 

Drive two hours either side of low tide. If you are uncertain as to the depth or condition of any hole at any time - do not drive through it.
