Major upgrades to Central Station and Waddy Point visitor facilities are scheduled this year to improve power and wastewater treatment facilities.

As part of these works, new advanced wastewater treatment systems will be installed to cater for the high visitor demands.  

To ensure visitor safety and allow works to continue without additional delays there will be some temporary camp site closures and minor access restrictions put in place.

Camping area closures:

• Waddy Point top camping area (all sites) closed from 27 April to 31 August 2026
• Central Station tent and trailer sites closed from 13 July to 8 November 2026

Remaining open:

• Central Station Great Walk walker’s camp sites
• Waddy Point beachfront camping area and toilet located at end of this camping area.

Campers with bookings during these closure periods can modify their bookings or apply for a refund via their online account at www.qld.gov.au/camping.
