Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will be conducting planned burns near the Wet Tropics Great Walk between Stony Creek walkers’ camp and Henrietta Gate pick up point, Girringun National Park between Wednesday 3 June and Saturday 31 October 2026 (dates inclusive), as part of the annual conservation management and hazard reduction program for parks and forests.

As a result, smoke may be seen along this section of the Wet Tropics Great Walk and surrounding areas.

Visitors planning to walk Wet Tropics Great Walk during this period must contact QPWS Ingham office on (07) 4777 2822 prior to starting their walk to confirm planned burning operations and any impacts these may have on their walk.

Persons with respiratory or other health problems should seek medical advice on mitigating the effects of smoke inhalation, should close windows and doors and keep medications close by if suffering from a respiratory illness.

The aim of these burns is to maintain a healthy forest environment and reduce the potential threats from bushfires in periods of dangerous fire weather.
