Access restrictions: Panguna Ridge trail, Smithfield Conservation Park

This alert applies to the following park:

Geotechnical investigation work is being undertaken as part of a Cairns Regional Council project to replace the University water reservoir between Monday 31 August and Thursday 17 September 2026 (dates inclusive). During this period there may be access restrictions on Panguna Ridge trail.

Works will include vegetation clearing, mapping activities and drilling boreholes. Machinery and equipment will be active during this period.

Authorised vehicles are permitted to access Panguna Ridge trail (also known as Pungua Street fire break) but may experience delays while equipment is moved. Visitors are advised to avoid the area if possible and obey all signage, barriers and directions from contractors.
