Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will be conducting a planned burn (weather permitting) between 15th September 2026 – 18 September 2026, as part of the annual fire management program.

If visiting Hinchinbrook, Goold, or Orpheus Island National Park, observe all signs, barriers, and directions from QPWS Rangers and never enter closed areas.

As a result of the planned burn smoke will be present on the Islands. Persons with respiratory concerns are advised to take appropriate measure to mitigate risks.  

Planned burns are vital in promoting ecological health, biodiversity, and the conservation of species and habitats. They also aim to mitigate the risk and intensity of bushfires and their potential impacts on communities, infrastructure, parks, and forests.

The Thorsborne Trail will remain open.
