Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will be conducting a planned hazard reduction burn (weather permitting) from Tuesday, 15 September 2026, as part of the fire management program for Springbrook National Park.

Firefighters and machinery may be working along roadsides in the vicinity of Nerang-Murwillumbah Road, Chesters Road an internal fire breaks, such as Yaun’s Break (aka Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk) and Apiary’s Break in the southern Numinbah section of the park. For your safety and the safety of firefighters, please slow down and observe all directions and signs.

During the planned burn the following areas are closed to public access:

• Yaun’s fire break, including this same section of Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk – Note: Great Walkers will need to detour along Chesters Road with caution.
• Apiary’s fire break
• Chesters Road

NOTE: Motorists should be aware that traffic control will be in place along Nerang-Murwillumbah Road between the intersection of Chesters Road and the Numinbah Valley Community Hall, as heavy smoke may be encountered in this vicinity.

Smoke may be seen in the vicinity of Nerang-Murwillumbah Road, Pine Creek Road, Springbrook Road, Binna Burra Road, and Beechmont Road.

Persons with respiratory or other health problems should seek medical advice on mitigating the effects of smoke inhalation.

Commercial tour operators and other permit or agreement holders are not permitted to enter closed areas.

Please observe all signage, barriers and directions from rangers and do not enter closed areas.

The park will reopen when conditions are considered safe.
