This alert applies to the following park:
- Girraween National ParkQueensland Country
The Southern Downs region, including Girraween National Park, is currently experiencing declared drought conditions.
Creek levels throughout the park are extremely low. Bald Rock Creek has ceased flowing and has remained stagnant since February 2026. While this is having ecological impacts, it is also affecting water availability and recreational opportunities within the park.
As a result:
- The main swimming hole near the Bald Rock Creek day-use area is currently closed.
- Following the Queensland September school holidays, camping capacity will be reduced to 50% to help minimise water consumption and maintain essential services for visitors.
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service Rangers will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as required.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Please observe all signage, barriers and directions from rangers and do not enter closed areas.
Please monitor park alerts on the department's website for updated information.
