This alert applies to the following park:
- Girraween National ParkQueensland Country
The Southern Downs region, including Girraween National Park, is currently experiencing declared drought conditions.
Creek levels throughout the park are extremely low. Bald Rock Creek has ceased flowing and has remained stagnant since February 2026. These conditions are having ecological impacts and are also affecting water availability within the park.
As a result, from 6th October camping capacity will be reduced to 50% to help minimise water consumption and maintain essential visitor services.
As there will be no physical barriers or campsite closures in place, some visitors may notice campsites appearing vacant even when bookings are unavailable. Visitors are reminded that it is an offence to camp overnight in Girraween National Park without a valid camping permit.
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service Rangers will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as required.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Please monitor park alerts on the department's website for updated information.
