This alert applies to the following parks:

Works will be occurring at Nina Bay camping area and the Nina Peak Track from 23 October-1 November 2026.

  • Construction materials will be transported by helicopter from Nina Bay to the mainland and Mini Ramsay Bay throughout the morning on 30 October. While not planned, it is possible there may be heli-lifting occurring on other days during this period of the works.
  • There will be a barge landing at Mini Ramsay Bay to load equipment – there will be minimal impact to hikers passing through the bay.
  • Other minor works may occur at other locations on the Thorsborne Trail/Hinchinbrook Island during this time.

The Nina Bay camping area and Nina Peak Track will remain open throughout for Thorsborne Trail hikers, however some of the individual camp nodes may be closed.

Construction noise, including chainsaws and small machinery, may be expected during the day. Works will be carried out during the day to minimise disturbance to campers. Due to the confined space of Nina Bay camping area, the visitor experience will likely be impacted by the works – hikers may wish to camp elsewhere if they were planning on camping at Nina Bay.

Thorsborne Trail hikers passing through Mini Ramsay Bay and Nina Bay when heli-lifting is occurring may be given safety directives by Rangers during each helicopter pickup/drop-off and may need to wait until the helicopter is away from the site before being able to continue. It is anticipated that this should not exceed a 10 to 15-minute wait.

Hikers staying at Banksia Bay overnight on 29/30 October will be impacted by noise from the helicopter dropping off materials nearby on the morning of 30 October.

QPWS apologises for the inconvenience and appreciates your patience in supporting this important upgrade.
