This alert applies to the following park:

September to October is a peak bushfire risk period for Undara Volcanic National Park as high temperatures, strong winds and low humidity can cause bushfires to spread rapidly, potentially affecting the park with little warning.

Firebreaks do not guarantee protection from bushfires or stop the impacts of bushfire smoke. The park is remote and ranger attendance and emergency assistance may be delayed. Visitors should not rely on rangers being available to provide an immediate warning or assist with evacuation.

  • Before you leave home, it’s important to do some research into the place you’re visiting and plan as best as possible for the unexpected.
  • Check Park Alerts and be aware of weather conditions.
  • When visiting national parks and forests, ensure you have:
    • an evacuation plan
    • First Aid Kit
    • water and food
    • protective clothing.
  • Help prevent fires from starting by observing fire bans and fire prohibitions and reducing ignition sources including cigarette butts and open fires.
  • Subscribe to Park Alerts for the latest information on access, closures, fire bans, fire prohibitions and conditions.

Do not put your life at risk by entering closed areas, observe all signage, stay behind barriers and follow instructions from QPWS Rangers, the Queensland Fire Department and Police Service.

Visitor facilities and roads may close at short notice if conditions become unsafe.
