This alert applies to the following park:
- Bribie Island National Park and Recreation AreaBrisbane; Sunshine Coast
Recent weather events combined with high tides have caused all four lagoons on Ocean beach to breakthrough across the beach. Deep washouts are likely around all four lagoons with conditions changing on a tidal basis. Check depth before crossing lagoons as fast flowing water and soft sand can make vehicle crossings dangerous.
Motorists should use caution when travelling along Ocean Beach and travel at a reduced speed to avoid hazards. Beach travel is recommended one hour either side of low tide. Travel three hours either side of high tide should be avoided.
Driving over vegetated dunes is prohibited and not permitted despite conditions. Fines apply for anyone driving or parking on vegetated dunes.
Steep sand dunes along eroded beaches are very unstable and can collapse without warning. People have suffered serious injuries including death from being buried under collapsing dunes. For your safety:
-DO NOT climb or dig into sand dunes.
-NEVER allow children to play on or dig into dunes.
Alternate access to Ocean Beach camping areas can be facilitated via the Northern Access Track through the White Patch park entrance.
Please monitor park alerts on the department's website for updated information.
For your safety please proceed with caution along all park access roads.
Please observe all signage, barriers and directions from rangers and do not enter closed areas.
