What you can do
Always check Park Alerts and visit the QFD website for the latest information on fires in your area and bushfire safety.
Whether you’re planning a trip to a park, live close to a protected area or state forest, or it’s bushfire season, there are a few things you can do to stay safe and assist those working to manage bushfire risk.
Keep an eye out for smoke and monitor Park Alerts for planned burn notices, smoke advice and park conditions.
If smoke affects you, stay indoors and close windows and doors; and keep respiratory medication close by.
Visiting national parks and forests
If you’re planning to visit a national park or conservation area, make sure to check the Park Alerts webpage before leaving home.
If you come across a section of park that is closed for fire operations, observe all signs, barriers, and directions from Rangers, police or firefighters.
Living nearby to national parks and forests
Bushfires can happen anywhere. If you live near a national park or forest, be aware and prepared to protect yourself and your property by:
- having a bushfire survival kit that includes important documents, clothing, food and water, and evacuation plans
- tuning in to warnings through your local radio station or Queensland Fire Department (QFD)
- preparing your home and checking insurance coverage
- receive Park Alert updates by following @QLDParkAlerts or by subscribing to one of the park alerts RSS feeds.
To learn more about bushfire safety, visit the Queensland Fire Department.
