Camping on Juwun and Jambal walks

Blencoe Falls camping area has toilets and water can be collected from Blencoe Creek (treat all water before drinking).

Bush camping is permitted at Blanket Creek walkers' camp. No facilities are provided.

Bush camping is also permitted along the walk in the Herbert River Gorge between Blanket Creek and Yamanie pick-up point, by booking Herbert River Gorge camping zone. No facilities are provided.

Yaminie camp site has no facilities but it is accessible by 4WD if walkers wish to get dropped off or picked up here. Yamanie camp site is on the opposite side of Herbert River to the track to Wallaman Falls.

Camping in Girringun National Park and along the Wet Tropics Great Walk requires a camping permit and fees apply. Visitors need to book their camping permit before they visit. Book online, at an over-the-counter booking office or by phone. A tag with your booking number must be displayed at your camp site.

Be Crocwise

Estuarine (saltwater) crocodiles inhabit the waterholes, creeks and rivers you will cross during this walk. Crocodiles can be dangerous. Do not take unnecessary risks and remember to Be Crocwise to reduce your risk of crocodile attack when crossing waterways:

  • cross in full daylight – never at dawn, dusk or at night
  • cross only in shallow, clear water where you can see the bottom.

The best way you can Be Crocwise is to keep out of the water, stay more than 5m from the water’s edge and keep a sturdy object like a boulder or tree stump between yourself and the water. Camp at least 50m from the water’s edge.

Fires are not permitted along the Juwun and Jambal walks. Fuel stoves are recommended.
