Kuranda is 27km north-west of Cairns via the Captain Cook and Kennedy highways. When entering Kuranda village, turn right off Rob Veivers Drive into Barang Street and continue to the small parking bay just before the bridge over Jumrum Creek.

The walk through Jumrum Creek Conservation Park may be accessed from the parking bay on Barang Street or via Barron Falls Road, which also has a small parking bay. Jumrum Creek walk may also be undertaken as part of a longer circuit, beginning at the Kuranda Visitor Information Centre located at the corner of Coondoo and Therwine Street.

Wheelchair accessibility

Jumrum Creek Conservation Park has no wheelchair-accessible facilities.

Staying safe

Take some simple precautions to ensure a safe, enjoyable visit:

• Keep on the walking tracks and boardwalks at all times.
• Always carry drinking water, wear a hat, sunscreen and sturdy footwear.
• Take care on uneven, slippery track surfaces, especially when wet.
• Wear protective clothing and insect repellent for protection against stings, scratches and insect bites.
• Be aware that stinging trees are found alongside many walking tracks. These plants grow to 4m high and have large, heart-shaped leaves with serrated edges. Do not touch this plant as it may result in a very painful sting. If stung and symptoms are severe, seek medical advice.

Opening hours

Jumrum Creek Conservation Park is open 24 hours a day. The Kuranda Visitor Information Centre is open 10am to 4pm every day, except Christmas Day.

Pets

Dogs are permitted on the Jumrum Creek walk within Jumrum Creek Conservation Park – they must always be on a leash and under control. Please respect other visitors and the environment and bag and remove dog faeces from the park. Always clean up after your dog – collect waste in a secure bag and take it away for responsible disposal. Penalties apply for failure to remove your dog’s faeces from the park. Climate and weather

Jumrum Creek Conservation Park has a tropical climate. In summer, maximum temperatures range from 27°C to 38°C with high humidity, and between December and April, there are frequent heavy downpours of rain and the possibility of thunderstorms and tropical cyclones.

Although you can visit the park all year round, the cooler, drier months of the year (from May to September) are the best times to visit. The weather is pleasantly warm with reduced humidity and average maximum temperatures of 26°C.
