Camping and accommodation

Camping

Camp in a peaceful woodland setting on the upper western bank of the Burdekin River. There are 4 numbered camp sites, facilities are not provided.

Camping permits are required for Burdekin River camping area, and fees apply.

Access to the camping area is recommended for 4WD vehicle only. Read more about staying safe and looking after the park.

Walking

Dalrymple National Park is mostly undeveloped for walking, however unmarked trails follow the Burdekin River and Fletcher Creek. These peaceful walks allow visitors to explore the basalt flows in the national park and the riverside environment.

Longer hikes to Mount Keelbottom should only be undertaken by well-equipped, experienced bushwalkers. Walkers must be well prepared and responsible for their own safety. Remember to follow the Parks and forests walk with care guidelines.

Cycling

Cycle through Dalrymple National Park on the internal roads. Cycling from Burdekin River camping area to Fletcher Creek camping reserve offers an easy and pleasant riding experience. Expect to share the road with pedestrians, vehicles and other cyclists.

Trail-bike riding and four-wheel-driving

Trail-bikes and 4WD vehicles are allowed on the internal roads in Dalrymple National Park. Riders and drivers must be licensed, trail-bikes and 4WD vehicles must be fully registered. Expect to share the roads with pedestrians, cyclists and other vehicles.

Stay on formed roads—trail-bikes and vehicles are not permitted off-road.

Picnic and day-use areas

There are picnic shelters, tables, toilets, cold showers and wood barbecues provided at Fletcher Creek camping reserve. The Burdekin River day-use area has no facilities.

Fishing

Fishing is prohibited in Fletcher Creek (Allingham Creek) and Lolworth Creek within the national park.

Viewing wildlife

The river bank provides excellent opportunities for viewing waterbirds and the variety of woodland plants in the national park makes it an important refuge for native animals.
