    Camping and accommodation

    Camping

    Camp along the eastern bank of Teemburra Creek at Mia Mia bush camping area. No facilities area provided, and visitors must be totally self-sufficient.

    Camping permits are required and fees apply.

    Driving

    Enjoy a scenic 4WD drive from the township of Pinnacle to Mia Mia State Forest and Captain Crossing.

    Turn off the Mackay-Eungella Road at Pinnacle and drive approximately 5.2km south along Pinnacle Septimus Road to reach the Pinnacle Station Road turn-off. Follow the unsealed Pinnacle Station Road for approximately 150m, then take the left-hand fork in the road (right-hand fork is a private entrance) and follow Pinnacle Station Road for 1km to reach the State forest boundary gate.

    From the boundary gate follow the rough and unsealed Captain Crossing track for 7.5km through the State forest to reach a picturesque stream crossing at Teemburra Creek. Take along lunch and enjoy a picnic in shade beside the creek at Captain Crossing.

    Mia Mia State Forest is accessible by four-wheel-drive vehicles only. Access can be restricted due to high fire danger, severe weather conditions or management activities. Visitors should check park alerts prior to arriving.

    Registered four-wheel-drive vehicles and motorcycles, and bicycles may be driven or ridden on the Captain Crossing track only in Mia Mia State Forest. Unregistered and conditionally registered vehicles are not permitted. Drivers must hold a valid licence to operate the vehicle.

    A special permit may be required for an organised event activity or a competitive event, refer to permits and fees in Queensland’s parks and forests.

    Horseriding

    Saddle-up and travel through Mia Mia State Forest on horseback. Horseriding is permitted on Captain Crossing track only.

    Please remember to ride safely and minimise your impact on these special natural areas. Take note of weather conditions before you set out and avoid traversing over wet or muddy soil to reduce the spread of weed seeds and soil pathogens.

    Viewing wildlife

    Mia Mia State Forest hosts an array of wildlife. Listen for skinks rustling in the undergrowth and the melody of bird calls.
