The Wangetti Trail will be Queensland’s first purpose-built dual-use walking and mountain bike trail in a national park, creating a world-class adventure experience through the Wet Tropics, with glimpses of tropical islands and the Great Barrier Reef, between Palm Cove and Port Douglas.

The trail is being delivered in stages and, when complete, will span approximately 94 kilometres, showcasing spectacular coastal and rainforest environments across the Country of the Djabuganydji, Yirrganydji, Nyagali, Buluwanydji and Guluy peoples, who make up the Djabugay Nation Claim Group.  Co-designed with Traditional Owners, the trail will celebrate and share the region's outstanding natural and cultural heritage while respecting their deep connection to Country.

The first section of the Wangetti Trail opened in 2024 and is now available for you to enjoy. This 7.8-kilometre dual-use walking and mountain biking trail is located between Palm Cove and Ellis Beach.

Construction of the next section of the Wangetti Trail between Ellis Beach and Wangetti commenced in August 2026. This approximately 22-kilometre section will include a new camping area and is expected to open in 2027.
