Ascend the ancient sandstone ridges of the Constance Range and, as you catch your breath, enjoy the silence and the expansive views. Gaze over the black soils of the Gulf Savanna Plains and watch whistling kites circling overhead. Look for common wallaroos and purple-necked rock wallabies on the escarpments.

Signs direct visitors to where this walk starts. The walk is suited to experienced bushwalkers. It's best at sunrise, or sunset when you can also watch the moon rise (bring a torch for the return trip).

Getting there and getting around

The Constance Range track is in Boodjamulla National Park (Aboriginal Land) in remote north-west Queensland, close to the Northern Territory border, 270km north-west of Mount Isa.

  • The Constance Range walking track can be accessed from near the car park in the Lawn Hill Gorge section of the park (during the staged, post flooding reopening, signs will direct you to where this walk starts from).

More details are available on Visiting safely.

Wheelchair access

There are no wheelchair-accessible facilities.

Drinking water

  • Bring your own drinking water. There is no drinking water along the track.
  • It’s best to bring your own drinking water, as consuming water directly from Lawn Hill Creek can cause increased thirst due to its high calcium carbonate levels. Until the water supply is fully reinstated, water availability is limited, so please use it sparingly.
