Overview of walkers’ camps

Walkers’ camps have been allocated for the Mackay Highlands Great Walk nestled in amongst existing camping areas.

Walkers' camps are available at Fern Flat (Eungella National Park), Denham Range (Crediton State Forest) and Moonlight Dam (Homevale National Park) camping areas. All have access to toilets and water (treat before drinking). Crediton Hall campground is managed by the Mackay Regional Council.

Camping permits are required and fees apply to camp at walkers’ camps along the Mackay Highlands Great Walk. A camping tag with your booking number must be displayed at your camp site.

Important note: To secure a camp site, hikers must book their camping permits before they visit the Mackay Highlands Great Walk.

Crediton Hall campground is managed by the Mackay Regional Council, follow the link for details and to make a camping booking. Alternatively, self-register upon arrival using the self-registration envelopes available from a dispenser located at the toilet block.

Park-specific walkers’ camp conditions

  • Maximum length of stay in a walkers’ camp is 2 nights
  • Maximum number of people in a walkers’ camp is 4.
  • Open fires are allowed in fire rings at Fern Flat and Denham Range camping areas only (except when fire bans apply). Fuel stoves are recommended. Bring your own clean milled timber. Collecting firewood in the National Park and State Forest is not permitted. For up-to-date fire ban information, visit fire.qld.gov.au.
  • Generators are not permitted.
