Moreton Bay Marine Park zones entry and use provisions table

Note: All fishing activities must comply with the restrictions or conditions placed upon them by the Fisheries Act 1994 and associated regulations, e.g. apparatus, bag and catch limits. All fishing equipment must be stowed and secured when in an area of a zone in which the use of the equipment is not authorised under marine park legislation.

Some fish, including the estuary stingray and the scalloped hammerhead, are protected animals under the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and cannot be taken unless authorised. Some species are also no-take species under Fisheries legislation, e.g. potato rockcod and Queensland groper. All other species of grouper fish (genus Epinephelus) longer than 1m, are also protected in the marine park. If a protected or no-take species is accidentally caught while targeting other species, immediately and carefully return it to the water unharmed, being mindful of your personal safety.

Notes:

1. Up to 3 hand-held lines/rods per person and a maximum of 6 hooks/lures (aligns with restrictions under Fisheries legislation).
2. Up to two hand lines/rods and a maximum of two hooks/lures per person.
3. All equipment must be stowed or secured.
4. Limited to no more than 2 specimens of the same species; or a total of 5 specimens of a fish species listed in Schedule 4, Part 2 of the Marine Parks (Moreton Bay) Zoning Plan 2019; or a marine invertebrate other than an excluded invertebrate, greater than 5mm in length. Collection of coral is prohibited.
5. Limited to four crab pots or dillies per person.
6. Other than bait netting, which is allowed.  N11 fishery symbol required.  Net must be in compliance with Fisheries legislation. Taking of bream, flathead or whiting is prohibited. Fisheries legislation also prohibits take of some other species.
7. For limited impact research (extractive or non-extractive) conducted by an accredited educational institution or accredited research institution under the institution’s accreditation in a General Use zone, Habitat Protection zone, or a Conservation Park zone, no permit is required.
8. Research in Marine National Park zones is restricted to priority research for marine park management or research that cannot reasonably be conducted elsewhere.
9. Not involving fishing or collecting.
10. Restrictions apply in designated Go Slow Areas other than transit lanes and marked navigation channels.
11. Restrictions apply in Grey Nurse Shark designated areas.
12. Anchoring is prohibited in designated No Anchoring Areas (NAAs).
13. Recording of images or sounds with negligible impact on the marine park.
14. Managed vessel is an airboat, hovercraft, hydrofoil, or a wing in ground effect craft.

The zoning plan does not affect the operation of s.211 of the Commonwealth Native Title Act 1993.
