    What an amazing hike we had here yesterday... Went with a group of friends and took our time walking the trails, searching for birds and beautiful nature at it's finest. Well kept trails, hiking boots are preferable, dirt can be slippery. Parking is fairly easy, nice center to meet up before your hike, or swim, or boating of some sort, small crafts only.

    The discovery centre has many new displays with lizards, snakes, fish, platypus, crocodile, echidnas, tree kangaroo, wombat & more. Wallabies are free range within the grounds too. Very reasonable entry prices. New huge cafe for coffee, breakfast or lunch. After the discovery centre, you can go for a bush walk around the neighbouring dam. Highly recommended day out.

    Spent a full day here and it worked out better than expected. Arrived just before 10 and caught the platypus talk, then the Wildlife Discovery Show at 11. Worth booking the show ticket online, since it includes same-day entry to the Wildlife Centre anyway. The rangers clearly love this stuff and the show is the highlight. When the heat kicked in I swam inside the yellow buoys, then walked the Araucaria Track, which starts right at the beach and needs no preparation at all. One thing to know before you come: there are no koalas here. What you get instead is a platypus, a wombat, an echidna, a tree kangaroo, crocodiles, reptiles and wallabies wandering the grounds. Bring togs, a hat and plenty of water.

    We quite often go for walks up around the Enoggera Reserviour (Walkabout Creek). It is just beautiful. It's all bush and very tranquil. Then we either go swimming or canoeing in the dam. The water is very clean, baby turtles do nip at your toes though, ha, ha! Afterwards we either have morning tea, brunch or lunch at the restaurant/cafe there. The food is great and the staff are so helpful and friendly. More than that the ambience is just magical up on the decl looking out through the trees! A small native animal park is below the restaurant so you can look down on a big, fat, gorgeous wombat and a tree kangaroo. The animal park is cheap I think it's about $10

    Beautiful place. You can swim in the designated area. You can bring your own kayak, stand-up board or hire one onsite. There are a few hiking trails with different length up to 8km one way. There are mountain bike trails as well. The water is not very clear. It can be very busy during weekends. Hard to find a parking spot and very crowded in the swimming area.

About Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre

    Go Wild at Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre

    This bushland oasis in Brisbane’s backyard is perfect for families, friends and visitors to Brisbane. Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre is your gateway to Queensland’s diverse and beautiful national parks.

    The centre is located on the edge of D’Aguilar National Park—a 36,400ha park with eucalypt forest and rainforest that stretches from The Gap to Lake Wivenhoe in the west, and Mount Mee in the north. No other capital city in Australia enjoys a park this large and this diverse, just 12km from the heart of the city.

    Our Park Rangers are at the Visitor Centre ready to share their stories and help you discover all the special, nature-based experiences available to you. While you’re there, take advantage of the spectacular panoramic viewing experience at the Virtual Lookout showcasing national parks all over Queensland.

    At the Wildlife Centre, you’ll discover some of the weird and wonderful inhabitants of Queensland’s national parks. Explore on your own or join our park rangers at the daily wildlife talks (ask for the schedule when at the Visitor centre).

    Come face-to-face with some of Queensland’s interesting creatures in our Wildlife Discovery Show held every weekend at 11am with additional daily shows during holiday periods.

    Plan a family day out with a walk or cycle around Enoggera Reservoir, and cool off with a dip or a peaceful paddle around the water’s edge.

    Bring a picnic or head to the Walkabout Creek Café for a relaxing meal on our new deck. You can even plan your wedding, family event or next conference at the Walkabout Creek Conference and Wedding Centre!

    • The Visitor Centre is open daily from 9.00am to 4.00pm (Closed Christmas Day and ANZAC Day).
