Getting there and getting around

The Swamp Bay camping area is in Conway National Park approximately 8km southeast of Airlie Beach on the Shute Harbour Road.

By foot

From the Swamp Bay car park follow the Mount Rooper circuit along the foot of Mount Rooper for 1.2km to reach the Swamp Bay walk turnoff.
From the turnoff, walk 900m one-way to reach Swamp Bay and the camping area.

By boat or kayak (high tide and fine weather only):

From Shute Harbour follow the coastline northeast for approximately 8.5km passing by Coral Point and The Beak to reach Swamp Bay.

Swamp Bay camping area is open all year round. The camping area may be closed at time due to severe weather or management activities.

Camping area features

A secluded, coral beachside camp.

Location: approximately a 2.1km one-way walk from the Swamp Bay car park, or approximately 8.5km one-way by boat/kayak from Shute Harbour (high tide and fine weather only).

Access: the camping area can be reached on foot or by boat/kayak at high tide in fine weather only. Please check weather conditions prior to departure and travel with care. Swamp Bay is exposed to the north and there are no protected anchorage sites.

Number of sites: 4 undefined bush camping sites (not numbered) tucked in the beach scrub on the Swamp Bay foreshore. Maximum of 4 people per site.

Camp sites are suitable for: walk-in camping or vessel (at high tide) with caution.

Camp site surface: natural coral.

Facilities: None. Please follow the caring for parks and forests guidelines when you visit.

Open fires: prohibited. Fuel stoves are recommended.

Generators: prohibited.

Essentials to bring: campers must be completely self-sufficient, carry drinking water, food, rubbish bags, insect repellent and a fuel stove. Read more about before you visit.
