4WD Loop Road

The 4WD Loop Road is a one-way circuit suitable for high-clearance 4WD vehicles only. Sections of the track are steep and rough.

Pass magnificent sandstone outcrops and woodlands with basket ferns, king orchids and grevilleas. At Mitha Boongulla lookout catch some great views across the northern plains. Keep a watch-out for peregrine falcons and goshawks that hunt and roost along the sheer cliffs.

Important! Allow sufficient time in day-light hours to complete the 4WD Loop Road. Keep to the designated track and heed all safety and management signage. Penalties apply for entering unauthorised areas.

Getting there and getting around

Blackdown Tableland National Park lies in central Queensland 183km west of Rockhampton. The signed turn-off to the national park is on the Capricorn Highway 11km west of Dingo or 35km east of Blackwater. From the turn-off, follow Charlevue Road for 16km to the base of the tableland.

  • From the base of the tableland follow the Tableland Road for 6km to Yaddamen Dhina and then a further 8km to Munall camping area.
  • The 4WD Loop Road entry is located 4km south of Munall camping area on the Tableland Road.

Wheelchair access

There are no wheelchair accessible facilities on the 4WD Loop Road. Toilet facilities at Yaddamen Dhina day-use area are wheelchair-accessible (assistance may be required).

Opening hours

The 4WD Loop Road is open during daylight hours only. The 4WD Loop Road is subject to closures—in very dry conditions the track turns to bull-dust, and after heavy rain a bog.
