Details: Stroll alongside Mimosa Creek past Munall camping area to reach the Goon Goon Dhina trailhead. The walk passes through woodlands past an old settler’s camp and further along to a Ghungalu cultural site. Along the way, learn about the national park’s history and the Ghungalu people’s knowledge of the plants used for food, medicine and shelter. Watch for the lightning lizard (Goon Goon) basking on a rock or pause as you cross Mimosa Creek and listen to the tranquil sounds of the forest. You may even hear a pobblebonk frog calling—they sound like a banjo string being plucked… ‘bonk’.

Details: Meander down and across Mimosa Creek then follow a gentle ridge through the forest. Keep an eye-out for delicate orchids on your way to a lookout situated at the tableland’s edge. From the lookout catch stunning views of sandstone cliffs and the distant ranges—an exceptionally rewarding experience on sunrise.

Walk with care

Be mindful where you step when walking, there are some natural hazards.

  • Cliff edges are sheer and may be unstable. Keep well back from the edge and supervise children closely.
  • Pea gravel on the walking tracks makes the ground slippery under foot.
  • Take care when crossing Mimosa Creek—rocks may be slippery.

Getting there and getting around

All roads past Yaddamen Dhina day-use area are unsealed (gravel), narrow and winding. Walks in the Mimosa Creek area are accessible with a 2WD vehicle driven with caution. From Yaddamen Dhina follow the Tableland Road for 8km, parking is available opposite Munall camping area.

  • The trailhead for Goon Goon Dhina is located on the western side of Munall camping area, refer to Munall camping area map (PDF, 1.2MB) .
  • The trailhead for Mook Mook is located opposite Munall camping area on the Tableland Road.

Wheelchair access

There is no wheelchair access to walks in the Mimosa Creek area.
